Carl Baumann (businessman)

Carl Baumann , also Karl Baumann, born as Carl Hubert Cornelius Baumann (born November 24, 1852 in Weisweiler ; † August 16, 1929 in Bonn ) was a Düren manufacturer and world traveler.

Baumann was born as the son of the Weisweiler entrepreneur Max Baumann and Maria Louisa Hubertina Butterweck. Max Baumann ran a vinegar factory and distillery in his place of residence . Son Carl married Mathilde Gertrud Ludowika Lützenkirchen (* March 15, 1857, † July 26, 1898). The family lived at Steinweg 29 , a striking double-gabled house. The production was in the house at Steinweg 23. In 1892 Carl took over the company from his father. In 1885 the company took part in the world exhibition in Antwerp and received a bronze medal there. The vinegar factory and distillery was expanded to include a wine trade . In 1920 it operated as the steam grain distillery and wine shop Max Baumann . In the 1910 address book, Holzstrasse 42 is now listed as the residential address . Other company locations were Eisenbahnstrasse 25 and Kölner Landstrasse 30 .

Baumann traveled to Kashmir from March 14, 1906 to June 18, 1906 , an unimaginably long journey at the time. In 1908 he traveled to North America and several European countries, as well as to Russia and Japan . Baumann wrote many diaries about his travels . Two of these books are preserved in the Düren City and District Archives.

Carl Baumann lived in Switzerland at the end of his life . On July 6, 1928, he moved from Geneva to Bonn and lived there at Arndtstrasse 1 and later at Helmholtzstrasse 18.

Baumann was a co-founder of the Düren steam tram .
