Carl Blankenstein (born November 11, 1864 in Labiau , East Prussia - October 25, 1933 in Hamburg ) was a German theater actor and radio play speaker .

Life

Blankenstein, the son of a manorial estate owner, was to become a lawyer at his father's request. For this purpose he studied from 1885 at the University of Königsberg . At the end of 1886, however, he gave up his studies and went to Vienna to train as an actor.

There he was trained by Joseph Lewinsky , who became his friend and sponsor. He found a practical opportunity to prepare at the Princely Sulkowsky Theater. There he played lovers and heroes, schemers and bon vivants for the sake of practice and thus acquired routine on the stage.

In 1888 he made his debut as " Beaumarchais " in Clavigo in Innsbruck. Then he went to Lübeck to appear there as "Sapieha" in Demetrius . In 1890 he moved to Strasbourg, followed by the Berlin Theater in 1892, the Mannheim Court Theater in 1894 and in 1896 he returned to the Berlin Theater until he finally received an application to the Dresden Court Theater and accepted it.

He was forced to take on his first role as "Faust" because the actor he was supposed to be unable to use due to a fall. The performance was convincing, and after he had convinced in his actual roles as “Wetter von Strahl” and “Hut Owner” on May 27th and 28th, 1896, he was permanently engaged from September 1st, 1897. He stayed there until at least 1902.

In 1921 and 1928 he can be found at the Schauspielhaus Hamburg. From 1925 he was in the Hanseatic city as a radio play speaker for the Nordische Rundfunk AG .

Carl Blankenstein died in Hamburg in autumn 1933 at the age of 68.
