Carl Christian Leberecht Schmidtgen

Carl Christian Leberecht Schmidtgen (* 1796 in Großerkmannsdorf ; † July 10, 1866 in Greifswald ) was a German singer, conductor and composer.

Life

Schmidtgen first attended the teachers' seminar in Dresden-Friedrichstadt and, at the same time, received vocal training. After his debut in Freiberg in 1814, he was engaged in various theaters. In 1821 he was a chamber singer in Hildburghausen . For three years he worked as theater director at the Stralsund Theater . In 1826 he became music director in Stettin . In 1831 he was musical director of the Krampesche Theatergesellschaft , before he was appointed music director at the Schwerin court theater in 1837 and also director of the court orchestra .

He was married to Johanna , geb. Weiland (* 1814 in Stralsund; † March 30, 1850 in Wiesbaden), one of the greatest dramatic sopranos of her time , whom he met in Stralsund.
