history

In the 12th century, settlers cleared the forests in the area and drained swamps, creating so-called hooves . The name of the emerging place goes back to a locator named Erkenbrecht , who led the first colonists. The first documented mention was the Waldhufendorf , then still as Erkenbrechtesdorf or Erkinbirchtesdorff referred, in a tax notice in 1353. The prefix case in place names was in 1560 for better differentiation of Klein introduced erkmannsdorf. During the Thirty Years War the village was plundered several times and partly burned down.

The church was built in 1702 and completed in 1721 with the construction of the church tower. Großerkmannsdorf already had a church in the 16th century, and the new building was built on the ground plan of the old one. The interior design was kept in the Baroque style.

In the first half of the 20th century, several settlements with one and two-family houses emerged in the area around the town. During the GDR era , Großerkmannsdorf had its own school, and in 1963 the Ullersdorf / Großerkmannsdorf school combination was founded. The place also had an outdoor swimming pool . The farmers of the village were organized in agricultural production cooperatives until the reunification of Germany : from 1956 as LPG Thomas Müntzer , from 1972 together with LPG Frohe Zukunft from Ullersdorf as LPG Type III unit . The LPG also belonged to the Arnsdorf cooperation community, friendship .

In the course of its history, the name Erkenbrechtesdorf was changed nine times up to today's Großerkmannsdorf. The affiliation to offices / administrations changed several times, for example in the 14th century to the Castrum Dresden , in the 16th century to the Amt Radeberg, from 1952 to the district of Dresden-Land and in 1996 in the course of a district reform to the district of Kamenz . On January 1, 1999, the place was incorporated into Radeberg. Since August 1, 2008 , he has been part of the Bautzen district .
