The settlement Rossendorf is a locality of the Radeberg district Großerkmannsdorf in Saxony .
location
The Rossendorf settlement is located about three kilometers south of the center of Großerkmannsdorf. The settlement is limited to the west by the state road 177 and to the south by the federal road 6 . The federal road also forms the border to the local situation Rossendorf , which belongs to the locality Schönfeld-Weißig and thus to the city of Dresden . The Karswald is located to the north and east of the settlement .
history
In the area of today's intersection of the B 6 and the S 177 there was, according to historical records, a place called Rottendorf , which was destroyed and deserted at the latest during the Hussite Wars in the 15th century, but probably sooner . Later, the corridor of the Rottendorf desert was divided between Großerkmannsdorf, Weißig , Schullwitz and the Rossendorf manor. The Großerkmannsdorfer part of the desert is the site of today's Rossendorf settlement.
When construction work began on the Central Institute for Nuclear Research (ZfK) in Rossendorf in 1956, residential barracks for the construction workers as well as functional and storage buildings were built at the site of today's settlement. After the construction of the institute was completed, the barracks were empty and the functional buildings were partially used by the ZfK. The management of the ZfK decided in 1960 to create a housing estate for on-call personnel in order to be able to react more quickly to any accidents. The old residential barracks were demolished and in 1962 construction of the new residential buildings began. The first apartments were ready for occupancy in 1964. In 1966 the road through the settlement was paved. From 1964 to 1973 there was a crèche and a kindergarten . After its closure, the ZfK reopened a day-care center in 1974 on a citizens' initiative , which existed until 1990.
Extensive renovation work on the buildings of the settlement took place in 1995/1996, with balconies and facades being renewed, among other things. The canal and road network of the Rossendorf settlement was completely renewed by May 2015. The construction work was preceded by a long-term dispute between Radeberg and Dresden regarding the drainage of rainwater from the settlement, as this takes place in the Rossendorfer pond , which is located in Dresden's urban area. The dispute was resolved with the construction of a sedimentation plant for the discharged water.
Economy and clubs
The Rossendorf Technology Center (ROTECH) has been located in the settlement since 1995 and works closely with the research center. In addition, several different technology companies such as the Gesellschaft für Silicium-Mikrosysteme mbH (GeSiM) and iseg Spezialelektronik GmbH have settled here.
In the Rossendorf settlement there is the model flight club Rossendorf eV , which was founded in 1967 as a section of model flight sports of the Society for Sport and Technology - Basic Organization of the Central Institute for Nuclear Research Rossendorf. Rudolf Zimmermann, one of the co-founders, was awarded a gold medal for his youth and club work by the international aviation association Fédération Aéronautique Internationale after the fall of the Wall . In 2001/2002, a former building shack in the settlement was converted into a workshop building for the model flying club.
There is also the allotment garden association An der Siedlung eV in the Rossendorf settlement , one of over 30 allotment garden associations in the city of Radeberg and its districts.
A neighborhood festival is held regularly in the Rossendorf settlement during the summer months. The first such event took place in 1979.
Others
In June 2015, the Bautzen district announced that around 70 asylum seekers would be accommodated in a former dormitory in the settlement from August of that year . The announcement met with criticism from both the residents and the Radeberg city administration. The main arguments against the establishment of a refugee accommodation are the lack of traffic and social infrastructure , the numerical ratio of 70 asylum seekers to the 120 inhabitants of the settlement as well as the lack of security concepts. The first residents moved into the refugee accommodation at the beginning of August 2015; the home is looked after by a Bautzen company and various alliances. According to a statement by the head of the accommodation in December 2015, the coexistence of the refugees with the settlement residents works "reasonably well", life in the settlement is "a peaceful coexistence" and there was no major friction. Both residents and people from outside, such as students from Dresden, help to look after the refugees in the accommodations.
