Life

Holzbecher first appeared on the stage in Berlin in 1789 as “Elamir” and for 40 years did not work at this court theater as a significant, but very dutiful and therefore eminently deserving member. His daughter was the actress Julie von Holtei (1809–1839), his son-in-law Karl von Holtei .

At the Royal Berlin National Theater under the direction of August Wilhelm Iffland , he appeared in more than 140 pieces. Among other things, he sang "Artemidor" in Christoph Willibald Gluck's opera Armide , which premiered in Berlin on May 20, 1805, more than 30 times by 1814. In the comic Singspiel Ein Tag in Paris by Nicolo Isouard (premiered March 20, 1809) he sang the role of “cobbler” with great success. In Carlo Goldoni's comedy The Servant of Two Masters , he played "Silvio". In Friedrich Schiller's tragedy Don Carlos , he played the Prince of Parma.
