Nicolas Isouard
Nicolas Isouard ( Nicolò Isouard , known by his pseudonym Nicolò or Nicolò de Malte , born December 6, 1775 in Mosta , Malta , † March 23, 1818 in Paris ) was a Maltese composer of French origin.
Life
Isouard studied in Valletta with Francesco Azopardi , in Palermo with Giuseppe Amendola and in Naples with Nicola Sala and Pietro Alessandro Guglielmi . From 1795 he was organist at San Giovanni de Gerusalemme and Kapellmeister of the Order Church of St. John San Giovanni di Malta . He later moved to Paris , where he lived as a freelance composer. In addition to masses , motets , cantatas , romances and duos , he composed over forty operas . His best known, which is also available on CD, is Cendrillon .
In 2002 a commemorative coin (silver with half-length portrait to the left) was minted in Malta in honor of Isouard.
