Carl Friedrich Stavenhagen
Carl Friedrich Stavenhagen (born October 7, 1723 in Anklam , † September 26, 1781 in Anklam) was a city secretary and historian.
Carl Friedrich Stavenhagen was born as the son of the merchant Gottfried Stavenhagen and his wife Regina, born. Oemichen, born in Anklam. There is evidence that he studied law at the University of Halle until 1746 . In 1748 he went to Kurland to live with close relatives. There he became the educator of the sons of Chancellor Diedrich von Keyserling . From 1754 he was back in Anklam and became city secretary.
In 1773 he published a Chronicle of Anklam, which made him known in Prussia. It was to his credit that, due to his work, he evaluated, summarized and arranged all important documents in chronological order. He was able to rely on materials that had been put up before him by personalities interested in the history of Anklam. The book contains a directory of the 240 subscribers , which makes it possible to understand the circles in which there was interest in this city history book. The residents of Anklam subscribed to 84 books, 36 of them by craftsmen.
In 1777 Stavenhagen became the town councilor.
On October 6, 1756 he married Caroline Sophie von Scheven from a family of dressmakers in Anklam (The Schevensche house was at Peenstrasse 51 - the later Eleonorenstift). The Anklam-born writer Konrad Maß vividly described the history of courtship in his book “Das Haus Stavenhagen”.
He came from a respected patrician family whose representatives were mainly merchants. According to old documents, the family came from Mecklenburg , probably from the city of Stavenhagen . The ancestral home of the Stavenhagen family was Markt 21, which was sold to the buying and selling association in 1896 and destroyed by German fire on April 29, 1945. The Stavenhagen family had an hereditary burial place in the Marienkirche . In 1934, craftsmen discovered the Stavenhagen family's hereditary burial with 22 coffins in the Marienkirche. The enclosed memorandum from 1849 shows that the grave site was bought by the church authorities in 1773.
