Dietrich von Keyserling

Dietrich Graf von Keyserling (born September 5, 1713 in Neuchâtel Castle in Courland ; † November 13, 1793 in Mitau ) was Chancellor and General of Courland .

Life

Dietrich von Keyserling came from the originally Westphalian noble family von Keyserlingk . He was heir to the lands in Okten and Ligutten (Latvian: Līguti, near Grobiņa ) in Courland and studied in Königsberg and Jena . He then worked in the office of his stepbrother Hermann Carl von Keyserlingk , the Russian envoy to the Polish-Saxon court.

In 1735 he was among the Russian volunteers under General Lacy on a campaign to the Rhine. In 1736 he became a professional soldier in the Turkish Wars . First he was adjutant wing, later adjutant general of General Lacy, who was now in Austrian service. In 1737 Keyserling became chief of the Azov Dragoon Regiment. He then retired from the military and became chief hunter in Courland. In 1754 he was a royal Polish chamberlain , in 1758 he became a Privy Councilor and in 1759 Chancellor of Courland. When Ernst Johann von Biron returned, he resigned and became a private citizen again.

At the coronation of Friedrich Wilhelm II of Prussia on September 19, 1786 Keyserling was raised to the rank of count. He was also a knight of the Order of St. John , the Order of St. Anne , the Order of the White Eagle and the Order of St. Stanislaus .

He was married to Anna Alexandrine Freiin von Manteuffel (1723–1784) since 1739 . The couple had the following children:
