Jaunpils ( German  Neuchâtel ) is a place in western Latvia and the center of the administrative district of the same name.

history

Jaunpils Castle

The place arose around a castle from the 14th century and around the Neuenburg estate. The von der Recke family owned the area for a long time .

Alexander Bernewitz (1863-1935), the first bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran regional church in Braunschweig , was born in the municipality. Alexander Bernewitz was pastor of Neuchâtel / Jaunpils from 1894 to 1908, succeeding his father and his grandfather, before he became General Superintendent of Courland in Mitau / Jelgava . From 1806 to 1920, four pastors Bernewitz worked in Neuchâtel / Jaunpils in three generations . The last in this series was Alexander Bernewitz's cousin Theodor Bernewitz from 1908 to 1920. He was like this successor to his grandfather.

Jaunpils novads

In 2009 Jaunpils novads emerged from the municipalities of Jaunpils and Viesati . In 2010, 2743 residents were registered.
