Carl Gotthelf Glaeser the Elder

Carl Gotthelf Glaeser the Elder (born January 23, 1715 in Gelenau / Erzgeb. , † January 28, 1792 in Ehrenfriedersdorf ) was rector and cantor in Ehrenfriedersdorf.

Life

Glaeser was the son of the organ builder, organist and schoolmaster Michael Glaeser (1692–1772) from Krumhermersdorf and his wife Elisabeth Weise (1689–1762). He grew up together with seven siblings in Gelenau.

In 1743 he married Charlotte Stieler (1722–1789) and had nine children with her, including the composer Carl Ludwig Traugott Glaeser .

Glaeser attended the Kreuzschule in Dresden and studied in Leipzig . In 1740 he was appointed cantor and in 1749 rector in Ehrenfriedersdorf. In 1790 he celebrated his 50th anniversary in office.
