Carl Ludwig Traugott Glaeser (born September 14, 1747 in Ehrenfriedersdorf , † January 31, 1797 in Weißenfels ) was a German composer and cantor at the town church in Weißenfels .

Glaeser was the son of Ehrenfriedersdorfer Rector Carl Gotthelf Glaeser the Elder (1715–1792) and his wife Charlotte Stieler (1722–1789). He came from a Saxon family of cantors that produced numerous cantors and pastors.

Career

Glaeser attended the Thomasschule in Leipzig from 1761 to 1769 , where he was a student of the Thomaskantor Johann Friedrich Doles . This was followed by studies of music at the University of Leipzig until 1771 . After graduating, Glaeser took the position of cantor at the city church and at the illustrious Augusteum grammar school in Weißenfels .

Works

One of his best-known compositions is the song Feinde rundum , composed in 1792 , the melody of which Johann Heinrich Christian Nonne used in 1814 for his (now more popular) poem Flamme up to celebrate the victory in the Battle of Leipzig in 1813. In 1791 he wrote Short Piano Pieces for Use in Classes . He has also emerged as a composer of piano etudes.
