Carl Gottlob Bohm (* 1810 or 1811 in Lychen , † 7. June 1883 in Fredersdorf ) was a German mechanical engineering - entrepreneurs .

Carl Gottlob Bohm began training at the Gewerbeinstitut Berlin (one of the forerunners of the Technical University of Berlin ) in 1828 . One of his college friends was August Borsig , to whom the institute director Peter Beuth Bohm presented as a shining example, as, unlike the practitioner Borsig, he also had a theoretical interest. In addition to his studies, he has been involved in the repair of windmills and water mills since 1831 and founded a company in the mill in Lychen. He completed his studies in 1834, and a year later he bought the local mill in Fredersdorf for 6300 Reichstaler with the financial support of his father-in-law, the timber merchant Windpfennig from BerlinFredersdorfer Mühlenfließ . He first worked here as a miller, and on the side he also ran some agriculture as a second mainstay. However, he quickly began to work as a mill builder. From around 1840 onwards, he continued to expand his business in Fredersdorf, an iron foundry and a machine factory were built next to the mill. In his factory he built machines for smoothing marble or for mining. Best known was his involvement in the construction of the Berlin Victory Column , where the smoothing process developed by Bohm was used for marble. The mining machines were mainly manufactured for the Rüdersdorf limestone quarry . Later Bohm switched to the manufacture of equipment for the production of spirits in his company. They produced complete equipment for yeast factories, distilleries and malt houses and manufactured heat exchange devices. From around 1875 the company was active worldwide.

Hereditary funeral of the Bohm family

At times, Bohm employed up to 100 people in his mechanical engineering factory, CG Bohm , which contributed to the development of Fredersdorf from a small village to a community with several thousand inhabitants. His sons Paul and Otto - the latter himself was the mayor of Fredersdorf for a long time - had a tomb erected at the Fredersdorf-Süd Evangelical Cemetery after their father's death with the inheritance of the Bohm family , which because of its artistic quality and its significance for the local history Monument protection was placed.
