Carl Gsaller

Carl Gsaller (born February 28, 1851 in Innsbruck ; † December 26, 1931 there ) was an Austrian alpinist .

Carl Gsaller became known for his first ascents and traverses in the Karwendel and Stubai Alps , some of which he carried out alone, and as a pioneer in the field of rock climbing . Thanks to these achievements and his publications, he is now counted among the leading pioneers of mountaineering in Tyrol.

Looking in vain for traces of previous human presence during the entire ascent, I found nothing at all on the two peaks of the summit, which offered some space. A 1½ m high cairn was quickly built out of blocks in such a way that you could see down to Oberiss from the foot of it. Having accomplished this, it was the prospect's turn. [...]. "
