Carl Heinrich Miede , pseudonym : Carolus Nordhusanus (* 1788 in Nordhausen ; † September 1, 1851 in Göttingen ) was a German pastor, headmaster, author and editor in Göttingen.

Life

His father was choir prefect , later sexton at the garrison church in Münden . While his father made his living there with private music lessons, Carl Heinrich grew up in Nordhausen with his mother and grandmother until he was five. Then they followed their father to Münden.

Carl Heinrich Miede attended high school in Nordhausen and from 1806 studied theology, history and geography in Göttingen. After a brief activity as private tutor in Nordhausen and daughter school teacher in Münden, he became rector in Hedemünden in 1810 . In 1814 he received a preaching position in Eichenberg near Witzenhausen . In 1820 he became pastor at the Marienkirche in Göttingen . During his term of office the renovation of the rectory and the church fell.

As a pastor, Miede was also responsible for caring for the poor. To combat poverty, he founded an association in 1831 that ran a soup kitchen. Like his predecessor, he relied on individual care for the poor by the voluntary helpers of the city commission for the poor. He was also responsible for the town's infirmary and poor house. He set up a foundation for pastor widows, partly funded by a lottery and a magazine.

Under his direction, the school facility that had emerged from the industrial school developed, from which a vocational secondary school developed by 1831. This was merged in 1853 with the trade school founded in 1848. Miede also called for girls to be educated. Overall, it was important to him that, in addition to preparation for professional life, general political education was provided in schools.

In 1847, as a thank you, the citizens presented him with a richly decorated cup with a lid. Miede and his wife Johanne Dorothea Elisabeth John were made an honorary citizen of the city on April 22, 1848 .
