Carl Hornemann

Carl Hornemann (born March 29, 1811 in Hanover ; † December 13, 1896 there ) was a German chemist , entrepreneur and senator .

Life

Carl Hornemann was the son of a painter and drawing teacher who also ran a paint trade. After studying chemistry at the Polytechnic Schools in Hanover and Munich, he began producing artist paints in Groß Munzel in 1838 . Therefore, 1838 is also considered the year Pelikan AG was founded .

In 1842 Hornemann moved to Hanover, the city of his birth, and expanded his range there.

On the German question , Carl Hornemann was a supporter of a small German solution and in 1859 co-founder of the German National Association . In 1863 he was elected mayor of Hanover and was a senator from 1864 to 1895 who worked on numerous commissions.

In 1871 Hornemann sold his paint company to Günther Wagner in order to work almost parallel to it in 1870/71 (and later also in 1873/74) as a member of the Prussian House of Representatives .

Honors

  • In 1964, part of Rehbockstrasse in the Hanover district of Nordstadt was renamed Hornemannweg .
  • In 1995 the Carl-Hornemann-Weg in Hanover between the streets Immengarten and Günther-Wagner-Allee was named after the company founder.
