Günther Wagner (entrepreneur)
Günther Wagner (born March 6, 1842 in Hamburg ; † October 12, 1930 in Frauenalb , Black Forest ) was a German chemist and entrepreneur . He was one of the founders of the Pelikan company in Hanover.
Life
Günther Wagner was the son of a doctor. After attending the academic high school in Hamburg , he studied chemistry in Hanover and Göttingen. After working in the chemical factory of Eugen de Haën , he worked from 1863 in the small paint factory of Carl Hornemann . In 1871 he bought the company and continued to run it under his own name.
A few years later, in 1877, Wagner became a member of the Freemason Lodge Friedrich zum white Pferde .
In the early days of the idea of branded articles , Wagner registered the pelican, which was also the family coat of arms, as a trademark for the artificial colors, inks and inks he produced.
In 1881 Wagner hired Fritz Beindorff , who then became his son-in-law in 1888 and in turn acquired the company in 1895, which in the meantime was one of the most outstanding companies in color chemistry, primarily because of the watercolors.
After Günther Wagner had completely withdrawn from the company, he was the first to build a house in Güntherstrasse, which was named after him in 1896 in the Hanover district of Waldhausen . As a wealthy privateer, Wagner from then on occupied himself with philosophy, art and music and was one of the founders of the Geographical Society of Hanover in 1878 . Wagner later lived a few years in Lugano , then in Berlin and from 1920 in Frauenalb in the Black Forest .
In 1995, on the former premises of the Podbielskistraße the Günther-Wagner-Allee created.
