Carl Jung-Dörfler , also Karl Jung-Dörfler , (* as Carl Jung on January 29, 1879 in Obersdorf , Siegen district; † September 1, 1927 in Düsseldorf ) was a German painter.

Life

Carl Jung, the eldest of eight children of Johannes Heinrich Jung and Margareta Jung, née Bruch, grew up in poor conditions. At the age of 13 he was already working in the Siegerland ore mines . It was not until 1908, at the age of 29, that he was given the opportunity to study at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . Presumably he was recommended to study by the local Catholic clergyman and supported by an art scholarship from the Imperial Cask Administration in Berlin.

He became a master student and known as a painter with his oil paintings, sketches, pencil and charcoal drawings. Dörfler died after a serious illness of a bone sarcoma and was buried in Obersdorf. His name affix "Dörfler" added in Düsseldorf is interpreted as "evidence of his close ties to his homeland".

Carl Jung-Dörfler met the Berlin gynecologist and pediatrician Hedwig Danielewicz in Düsseldorf in 1912 , one of the first women to study medicine in Germany. They married on December 22, 1916. Hedwig Jung-Danielewicz, although converted from the Jewish to the Roman Catholic faith when they married, was killed in a Minsk ghetto in 1942. The community of Wilnsdorf has been commemorating Hedwig Jung-Danielewicz since 2015 with a memorial stone; after it was Hedwig Danielewicz Square in Oberndorf, a district of Wilnsdorf named.
