Carl Lang (politician)

Carl Lang (born September 20, 1957 in Vernon , Département Eure ) is a French politician. From 1994 to 2009 he was a member of the European Parliament .

Lang joined the Front National in 1978 . After graduating as a physiotherapist in 1980, he was promoted to the Central Committee of this party in 1982 and in 1983 led the Jean-Marie Le Pen campaign for the municipal elections in the 20th arrondissement of Paris . From 1983 to 1986 he headed the youth organization Front national de la jeunesse , was elected to the party's Politburo in 1985 and was General Secretary of the party from 1988 to 1995. After he was again appointed General Secretary of the Front National in 1999, Le Pen dismissed him on October 11, 2005. In February 2009 he founded the Parti de la France party .

In addition to political mandates at regional and local level in the regional councils of Haute-Normandie (1986–1992) and Nord-Pas-de-Calais (1992–2010) and in the city council of Lille (1995–1996), Carl Lang achieved elections 1994 , 1999 and 2004 a seat in the European Parliament . In the European elections in France in 2009 he was a candidate in the Nord-Ouest constituency . In November 2011 he played a leading role in founding the new Union de la Droite nationale party , an amalgamation of the Parti de la France with other right-wing extremist movements that oppose the FN's new, more moderate course. His attempt to run as a candidate for this alliance for the 2012 presidential election failed because of the 500 signatures required by elected officials.
