Carl Lauzil

Josef Georg Carl Lauzil (born February 27, 1842 in Vienna , † October 12, 1902 in Graz ) was an Austrian architect who also planned the Graz Central Cemetery and was director of the kk Staatsgewerbeschule in Graz.

Career

After graduating from technical college, he attended the Academy of Fine Arts from 1861 and studied with the Ringstrasse architects Eduard van der Nüll and August Siccardsburg and later with Friedrich von Schmidt . From 1870 he worked with this foreman at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna. In that year he married Cornelia Jasper (* 1848, † 1932). In 1873 Lauzil became boss of the newly founded Donaustadt construction company. After one year (1876) as a specialist teacher at the State Trade School in Pilsen, he was appointed curator of the kk Central Commission for the Study and Conservation of Art and Historical Monuments in Bohemia.

In 1879, Carl Lauzil was appointed director of the kk Staatsgewerbeschule in Graz as the successor to August Ortwein , a position he held for 23 years. From 1880 he was also the curator of Styria. During these activities, Lauzil continued to work as an architect, including at the Graz Central Cemetery , the Reininghaus Foundation building and the banker Kleinoschegg's villa.

Grave site

Carl Lauzil is buried in the family grave in the Protestant part of Graz's St. Peter city cemetery.
