The HTBLVA Graz-Ortweinschule (HTBLVA stands for “Higher Technical Federal Teaching and Research Institute”) is a higher technical teaching institute in the Geidorf district of the city of Graz in Styria .
history
Archduke Johann founded a trade association , which in 1837 set up a drawing class for joiners , locksmiths , masons and carpenters at the Joanneum . A “winter school” for builders and foremen began in 1866 as part of the trade association . In 1872 the trade association founded the Styrian Art Industry Association in the shooting range building on Pfeifengasse, which later became Ortweinplatz. The shooting range building was extensively rebuilt, and in 1876 the school with director August Ortwein was elevated to a state trade school , and an annual technical school for civil engineering was established in addition to the winter school . With the spin-off of the fields of mechanical engineering and electrical engineering, the higher technical federal teaching and research institute Graz-Gösting was established in 1919 and the state trade school was renamed the federal teaching institute for the building trade and arts and crafts . From 1926 to 1932 a new school building was built on Ortweinplatz according to the plans of the architect Adolf Ritter von Inffeld . Since 1987 the school has been located in new buildings on Körösistraße in the north of Graz, next to the BRG Körösi, which is on the corner of Ortweingasse.
