Carl Mittell (actor)
Carl Joseph Mittell , also Karl Josef Mittell (born October 26, 1824 in Vienna , † March 1, 1889 in Dresden ) was an Austrian actor and theater director .
Life
Carl Mittell was a son of the Viennese court actor Karl Mittell and took on children's roles at the Burgtheater at the age of seven . Nevertheless, he first attended the Piarist Seminary in Vienna , since he was supposed to be a priest. But he broke off this training and was then trained as an actor by his father and the poet Wilhelm Vogel, and later by Karl Fichtner . In 1847 he had his first engagement in Vienna, where he stayed for the next few years. From 1854 to 1857 he had an engagement in Riga , after which he worked in Berlin at the Wallner Theater , the Friedrich-Wilhelmstädtische Theater and the Victoria Theater . One of his stage partners was Agnes Wallner .
The judgment of a critic comes from his time in Berlin: "Carl Mittell is one of the most capable talents that ... Berlin's theater has at all ..."
From 1866 to 1867 he was at the Dresden Court Theater , then at the Leipzig City Theater , where he not only appeared in amateur and bon vivant roles, but also worked as a comedy director. After Julius Hübner's death , Mittell was engaged at the Hamburg Thalia Theater from 1878 . Because of an eye problem, he finally retired from the job. An operation at Albrecht von Graefe in Halle took place in 1886. Carl Mittell spent his last years in Dresden.
