Karl Fichtner (actor)
Karl Albrecht Fichtner (born June 7, 1805 in Coburg , † August 19, 1873 in Gastein ) was an actor .
Life
Fichtner came from a family of actors. He entered the stage in children's roles at the age of five, made his debut in Freiburg in Switzerland in 1820 and came to the Theater an der Wien in 1822 , in 1824 to the Hofburgtheater in Vienna, where he performed 460 plays and 513 roles until his retirement (1865) occurred.
Fichtner made little guest appearances outside of Austria; only his guest appearances in Breslau in 1858 and Berlin from 1861 to 1863 brought him to the reputation he deserved in Germany. Since 1841 he also worked as a director. Fichtner mastered both serious drama and comedy in different ways. He preferred to play youthful, later sedate lovers and bon vivants. Unvarnished, but refined nature, kindness and eternal youth were the qualities that secured general admiration for his roles, preferably in the second half of his 40-year career at the Burgtheater .
He was married to the actress Elisabeth Koberwein (1809–1889). Her daughter was Marie Fichtner , who was also an actress at the Hofburgtheater. The actor Friedrich Arnsburg was his son-in-law. Her son Adolf Fichtner , also an actor, was married to the singer Auguste Spahr . His granddaughter Marie Arnsburg (1862–1940) was an Austrian painter.
His grave is in the Matzleinsdorf Evangelical Cemetery (crypt center left, number 75) in Vienna. In 1894 Fichtnergasse in Vienna- Hietzing was named after him. In the high school auditorium (Fichtnergasse 15) a plaque commemorates K. Fichtner.
