Carl Philipp Prince of Salm-Salm

Carl Philipp Joseph Petrus Cölestinus Balthasar Prinz zu Salm-Salm , also Karl Philipp Prinz zu Salm-Salm (born  May 19, 1933 in Anholt , Westphalia ) has been head of the former Princely House of Salm-Salm since 1988 .

Life

According to nobility law (no longer legally valid in Germany) , Carl Philipp would be the 14th Prince of Salm , 9th Prince of Salm-Salm , 9th Prince of Salm- Kyrburg , Wild- and Rheingraf , Prince of Ahaus and Bocholt , Duke of Hoegstraeten , Count zu Anholt , Herr zu Vinstingen and Werth .

He is the second son of Nikolaus Leopold Heinrich zu Salm-Salm (* February 14, 1906; † January 15, 1988) and his first wife Ida, born von Wrede (* February 26, 1909; † October 25, 1998).

Carl Philipp experienced the time of the Second World War in his birthplace Anholt, where he also attended elementary school. His older brother Alfred was killed in an air raid on March 21, 1945. After the war, his father was initially a prisoner of war, while the family temporarily lived in a cellar in the heavily destroyed Anholt Castle . In 1954 Carl Philipp graduated from the Aloisiuskolleg , a Jesuit school in Bad Godesberg . After studying business administration and a professional career in banking and economics, he took over Salm-Salm'sche administration in Rhede in 1969 . In 1988 he took over the inheritance of his father and took over the management of the Salm-Salm house.

Carl Philipp married Erika von Morgen on February 4, 1961 in Munich (* March 19, 1935 - April 17, 2007), with whom he has four children: Emanuel Philipp Nikolaus Johann Felix (* December 6, 1961), Philipp (* July 5, 1963), Felicitas (* July 1, 1965) and Clemens (* November 18, 1966). He has been married to Elisabeth Frisch since 1993 (* February 12, 1951).

Honors

In 2009 Carl Philipp zu Salm-Salm was honored with the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class.
