In 1969 his son Emil Max Fritz wrote a family chronicle on the history of the Thiele family , in which he explains:

"With a few exceptions, his work was bread work all his life, but he was thoroughly satisfied."

"It is not possible to list everything that he has achieved here, only a few things are mentioned that were created according to needs and tastes of the time: sheet music titles, diplomas, postcards, book illustrations, joke sheets, drafts for paper lanterns, school primers, children's books and much more."

“The postcard played a major role in his work [...] One of his specialties was, in keeping with contemporary tastes, humanized animals, especially dachshunds and cats. In specialist circles he was known under the name 'Dackel-Thiele' or 'Katzen-Thiele'. "

Not all works by Carl Robert Arthur Thiele are signed; he changed his signature in the course of his career. Particular attention is paid to the z. The signature of the landscape painter Arthur Thiele (1841–1919) can be confused . Finally, Carl Robert Arthur Thiele added the letters Lpzg for Leipzig to his signature . This signature is unique.

Carl Robert Arthur Thiele designed collection pictures for Stollwerck scrapbooks , etc. on behalf of the Cologne chocolate producer Ludwig Stollwerck . a. the Jux series for the Stollwerck scrapbook No. 13 from 1912.

As a postcard artist, he created a variety of cards, often depicting humanized animals, mainly cats.

personality

In the family chronicle his son Emil Max Fritz describes him as kind, a certain photo of him shows him in all his kindness . Politically, he was national, downright reactionary: He illustrated the war propaganda volume Europa Struwwelpeter published in 1915 , in which H. Morell wrote:

Marianne

Marianne was at home alone, / There she went out on a Sunday / And came with a fresh, cheerful disposition / To Petersburg and Moscow, / Since she was always flirtatious, / She soon chose herself / A sweetheart, - that was the dirty Russ, / Although she thought: It's not a pleasure / Because it smells like Wutki / And he doesn't pay for lunch / But - he is bigger than seldom anyone / and always better than nobody ...

Marianne is a symbolic representation of the French Republic, which is mostly represented as a young woman with different republican attributes: French tricolor, helmet or freedom cap, etc. a. The propaganda is not only directed against Russia, as is obvious, but also against the 'hereditary enemy' France.

Honors
