Carl Schmitt (* 1963 in Gelnhausen ) is a German film producer and screenwriter .

Life

Carl Schmitt attended the business school in Gelnhausen from 1984 to 1987. Since 1986 he has been working as a freelancer for a Frankfurt advertising film production company with commercials and optical effects for television and cinema films. In 1987/88 he studied philosophy , political science and history at the University of Cologne .

In 1988 he was team coordinator at Panasensor and worked on the visual effects for Roland Emmerich's last film, Moon 44, produced in Germany . In 1989 he started an internship at Bavaria Film . Until 1991 he was a trainee in the department of recording and production management of the AG for the promotion of young talent for film & TV and worked mainly for West German , North German and Hessian radio .

From October 1991 to July 1993 he studied at the Royal College of Art in London and obtained a Masters degree in Film & TV Production. After graduating, he worked as a freelance producer and production manager in Germany and Great Britain.

In 2001 he co-founded StarCrest Media GmbH in Frankfurt am Main and Munich .

Awards

In 2003, Carl Schmitt was the first German producer to receive the International Emmy Award in the "Best Documentary" category for the docu-drama Life goes on . Testimony (German title Lebens (w) ende) was nominated for the BANFF World Television Award in 2008 and won the Prix ​​Europa in the same year .
