action

The bank employee Norbert Harzendorf lies dead in his villa and the police suspect suicide. Brigitte Harzendorf has just returned from a short trip and seems very composed about the unexpected death of her husband. She can't say anything about her husband's major problems, he was a member of the board of a Frankfurt bank and was responsible for lending and money transfer. There Brinkmann and his assistant Robert Wegener interviewed the boss Gerber and a close colleague of Harzendorf, Ernst Bickel. The secretary knew about Karola Amendt, a customer the day before, whom Harzendorf treated very privately and intimately. A Mr. Fuhrmann also called about an urgent appointment. So Brinkmann and Wegener first go to the Hotel zu Fuhrmann and ask him about the background of his contacts with Harzendorf.

In the meantime, the autopsy result is available and there are traces of a hand edge blow against the larynx, as it is used in karate fighters. The shot was also fired after death. On the evening of the crime, a neighbor saw a man hurry out of the house.

Karola Amendt seeks Brigitte Harzendorf because she gave her husband a green folder and would now like to have these documents back. Since the safe was sealed by the police, they cannot look there. Then Fuhrmann also appears and wants to return a suitcase that he had given Harzendorf for safekeeping. When Brinkmann asked, he confessed that he worked as a courier and had handed over 4 million DM of old SED funds to Harzendorf. That would have to do with old contacts, because Harzendorf would have come from the GDR over 20 years ago. A Dr. He was supposed to hand the suitcase over to Recher later.

Brinkmann visits Ms. Amendt in her touring theater and she claims to have asked Harzendorf for a loan of 500,000 DM. She has greater financial worries and debts to the tax office. So she went out to dinner with him and he invited her to his villa that evening. He wanted her to switch completely to her bank and give up the musical rights to her latest piece. The next day the safe is opened, but there is neither a green folder nor a suitcase in it. Carter is desperate. Ms. Amendt is lucky, however, her portfolio was in the bank and so she can get it back from Bickel. Surprisingly, she is also able to repay the full amount of her debts to the bailiff who appears in the theater. That makes her suspicious for Brinkmann, of course, but she explains to him: Harzendorf gave her 150,000 DM that evening, so she stayed with him that night. She then saw him lying in the study, shot dead, wanted to call the police, but then ran away so as not to be drawn into a scandal. Otherwise your theater tour would have been in danger.

Wegner researched that Mrs. Harzendorf was not back from Trier the day after the murder, but the evening before. Your car was seen. She admits to have been to Frankfurt, but not at home, but at Bickel's. If Harzendorf found out, an act of jealousy would be possible. It is also inexplicable how Bickel gets the green folder when Mrs. Amendt has given it to Harzendorf in the villa. When Bickel is to be questioned, he is found dead in the underground car park. His larynx was probably smashed with the edge of his hand. It turns out that he knew about the illegal money laundering operations. He told Brigitte about it, and when she wanted to take the money out of the safe for Bickel, her husband was already dead on the floor. Nevertheless she stole the case and gave it to Bickel. However, the suitcase was equipped with a transmitter so that the murderer could locate it and retrieve it. Brinkmann remains the last chance to use the wagoner as a decoy to get to the great stranger , Dr. Recher, come along. The action succeeds and when the wagoner tries to leave the city with him, Brinkmann can intercept and arrest him at the station.
