Werner Hoffmann (cameraman)

Werner Hoffmann is a German cameraman who worked as a film and live cameraman for German television.

Hoffmann is particularly known for his work as a head cameraman / DoP ( Director of Photography ) in the field of feature film.

In addition, he was employed as the head cameraman of the Hessischer Rundfunk in numerous studio and live productions of the station. Prior to his retirement on January 1, 2000, the focus of his work was on TV feature films and TV game productions. Hoffmann was characterized by his lighting design and the moving camera (a lot "handheld"), which were still relatively rare in German TV feature films in the earlier years.

Life

After completing an apprenticeship as an optician, Werner Hoffmann began training as a cameraman in 1961 at Saarländischer Rundfunk in Saarbrücken, which he successfully completed with a seamless takeover in a permanent position as a camera assistant in 1963. Here he also met his wife, the vision mixer and later TV director Brigitte Hoffmann, born. Trenz (born June 27, 1944 in Püttlingen ). In 1964 Hoffmann switched to the Hessischer Rundfunk in Frankfurt am Main in a permanent position as a cameraman. With the marriage in 1966, Brigitte Hoffmann also switched to the Hessischer Rundfunk as a permanent mixer. In 1970 Hoffmann was promoted to head cameraman (DoP) and shot numerous “Tatorte” as well as other films and series until he retired on January 1, 2000. Werner and Brigitte Hoffmann have a daughter.
