Udo Vioff

Udo Vioff (born January 6, 1932 in Detmold , as Udo Heinz Ferdinand Viehoff ; † February 18, 2018 ) was a German actor .

Life

After graduating from high school, Udo Vioff studied theater studies in Munich, where he graduated from the Otto Falckenberg School from 1952 to 1954 .

Vioff made his theatrical debut at the Städtische Bühnen in Frankfurt / Main, whose ensemble he was part of for two years from 1954. In 1956 he moved to the Staatstheater Darmstadt, where he played many major roles until 1963. He then worked as a freelance actor, gave numerous guest performances at important stages such as the Berlin Hebbel Theater, the Frankfurt Fritz Remond Theater in the zoo, took part in festivals such as in Bad Hersfeld or went on tour with various plays. His stage interpretations included both classical and modern characters, including the title role in Goethe's Clavigo , Mephisto in Urfaust , Mortimer in Schiller's Maria Stuart , the title character in Shakespeare's Julius Caesar and the Prince of Guastalla in Lessing's Emilia Galotti ; he gave Camille in Büchner's Dantons Tod just as impressively as Henry in Wilder's We Got Away Again and Eisenring in Frisch's Biedermann and the Arsonists .

Udo Vioff made his feature film debut in 1955 in Julien Duvivier's Marianne alongside Marianne Hold and Horst Buchholz . Numerous appearances followed, particularly in film and television productions. He played tragic heroes (Orpheus in Orpheus and Eurydice after Jean Anouilh ), mad scientists ( Das Blaue Palais ) and historical figures like Napoleon in Josephine and Amerigo Vespucci in Käutner's Columbus film. In Franz Peter Wirth's Wallenstein production, based on Golo Mann , Vioff embodied the imperial governor Vilém Slavata , who achieved notoriety through the second lintel in Prague . In addition, the changeable Vioff was often cast for the type of dubious, shady criminal, as in the Durbridge film Sudden and Unexpected . Udo Vioff achieved particular popularity through his numerous guest appearances in legendary crime series such as Der Kommissar , Der Alte , Derrick and Tatort .

Vioff died in 2018 at the age of 86 and was buried in Munich's North Cemetery.
