Death drives roller coaster is a television film from the crime series Tatort , produced by Hessischer Rundfunk (HR) under the direction of Klaus Gietinger and broadcast for the first time on April 25, 1999 in the program Das Erste . It is the 410th episode of the crime scene and the 22nd case of the Frankfurt chief detective Edgar Brinkmann .

action

A young man had a fatal accident during a test ride on a roller coaster. The forensic scientist quickly finds a manipulated screw, so that there was an intent to cause an accident. Inspector Brinkmann is investigating the case together with Robert Wegener and asking the operator Ingo Sassmann about possible enemies. He states that people are always jealous in his industry. At the moment his neighbor Egon Blaschek is his worst adversary. However, he does not tell the inspector that he has been receiving extortion letters for some time and consults with his fellow showmen. However, this only leads to an argument with Blaschek, with whom Brinkmann is the first to talk. He openly admits his quarrel with his neighbor, who usually presents himself as a king on the fairground.

Commissioner Brinkmann soon finds out that Sassmann is being blackmailed. In order to get better access to the showmen, Wegener had the idea to smuggle in her colleague Julianne Bachmann as a temporary worker at Sassmann. The plan succeeds and Bachmann moves into a small caravan on the fairground. In the meantime, Brinkmann received a call from the blackmailer who confirmed the seriousness of his request. He sends him a pager by post , with which he now communicates with the police. He will text messages to give instructions on where the money should be delivered. In this way he sends the messenger to the bank of the Main, where the blackmailer manages to take over the suitcase and escape. When he realizes that there was only paper in the case, he threatens retaliation. During the night he attacks Blaschek's merry-go-round, but is disturbed by his foreman, whom he then stabs. The next day Blaschek receives a monetary claim and Brinkmann is convinced that the perpetrator is to be found in the vicinity of the fairground. When the new money is handed over, Sassmann is supposed to deliver the suitcase and again receives his instructions via the pager , which makes it difficult for the police to keep an eye on the money. The perpetrator cleverly tricked the officers and disappears with his prey.

The analysis of the extortion letters leads Brinkmann to the carousel producer Fichter. In an older photo of the company's workforce, the inspector recognizes Erwin Neuner, who is currently employed as a foreman at Sassmann. Fichter then confesses that he instigated Neuner and promised him to build his own roller coaster if he helps with the blackmail.

Meanwhile, Julianne Bachmann accidentally discovers the money that Neuner was hiding. When he catches her doing it, a duel ensues, but Neuner realizes the hopelessness of his situation and throws himself off the roller coaster to his death.
