Carl Seidel

Carl Seidel or Karl Ludwig Seidel (born October 14, 1788 in Berlin ; † August 15, 1844 there ) was an art writer, philosopher and poet .

Life

Seidel was originally supposed to take up the profession of a businessman, but studied philosophy and art studies. In 1826 he received his doctorate in philosophy and in 1840 received the title of professor. On July 30, 1840, he married his student Emilie Detroit.

He also played guitar and wrote theoretical articles, short stories and travelogues for numerous magazines. His novella Der Brautkampf , which appeared in the Dresdner Abendzeitung in 1819 and which inspired Theodor Hell to write the opera libretto The Three Pintos , is significant . It was set to music by Carl Maria von Weber , but remained a fragment.

Robert Schumann in particular considered Seidel's musical writings so important that he won him over as a collaborator for his Neue Zeitschrift für Musik and corresponded with him from 1834 to 1835.
