Carl Spatz (born November 4, 1845 in Homburg , † December 14, 1907 in Kaiserslautern ) was a German architect and founding director of the Pfalzgalerie Kaiserslautern .

Life

Carl Spatz, eldest son of the future Oberbaurat Friedrich Ludwig Spatz and grandson of significance for the Palatinate District Commissioner of City Planning Johann Bernhard Spatz (1782-1840), studied at the Polytechnic School Munich architecture . In 1865 he became a member of the Corps Vitruvia Munich. Gottfried von Neureuther was one of his academic teachings. After completing his studies, he returned to his home in the Palatinate.

As an architect, Spatz was committed to the Neo-Renaissance . In addition to the construction of today's Pfalzgalerie, several buildings were built according to his plans in Kaiserslautern and other cities in the Palatinate.

From 1874 to 1896 Spatz was director of the royal district building trade school and the Palatinate Trade Museum, the predecessor of today's Pfalzgalerie, in Kaiserslautern. He acquired the handicraft collection of the Munich artist Lorenz Gedon for the museum.
