Gottfried von Neureuther (born January 22, 1811 in Mannheim , † April 12, 1887 in Munich ) was a German architect and university professor .

Life

Gottfried Neureuther, the son of the painter Ludwig Neureuther (1774–1832) and his brother, the painter Eugen Napoleon Neureuther (1806–1882), grew up in Bamberg . From 1830 to 1831 he was a student of Friedrich Gärtner at the Munich Art Academy . From 1833 he worked in the building administration of the Kingdom of Bavaria, first at the building inspection in Würzburg and from 1835 at the building inspection in Reichenhall . From 1838 to 1841 Neureuther worked as a construction manager in Nuremberg , from 1842 to 1844 as a section engineer of the Ludwig-Süd-Nord-Bahn , then as the second architect for the railway construction commission in Nuremberg.

In 1845 Neureuther was transferred to Munich, and in 1857 he was appointed professor for civil engineering at the Munich Polytechnic . From 1858 he was the building officer of the department for agriculture at the Supreme Building Authority , finally he was appointed professor for civil engineering at the Polytechnic in 1868, where he worked until 1882. He was particularly a representative of the Neo-Renaissance .

His grave is on the east wall of the Old North Cemetery in Munich.

Honors

In 1869 he received the Knight's Cross 1st Class of the Order of Merit from St. Michael , and in 1874 the Bavarian Maximilian Order for Science and Art . In 1875 he was raised to the Bavarian personal nobility. He was a member of the Academies of the Arts in Munich (1868), Vienna (1870) and Berlin (1874), the Royal Institute of British Architects (1877) and the Académie royale de Belgique (1885). According to him, 1887 in Munich Maxvorstadt the Neureutherstraße named.
