Eugen Napoleon Neureuther (born January 13, 1806 in Munich ; † March 23, 1882 there ) was a German painter , draftsman and etcher .

Life

family

He was born the son of the painter Ludwig Neureuther (1775–1830). His younger brother Gottfried Neureuther became an architect . Ludwig Neureuther's direct descendants are the ski racer Christian Neureuther (* 1949) and his children Ameli Neureuther (* 1981) and Felix Neureuther (* 1984).

Life

Eugen Napoleon Neureuther attended the Munich Academy from 1823 , where he was a student of Wilhelm von Kobell . In 1830 he stayed in Paris and in 1838 in Rome . Peter von Cornelius gave him decoration work in the Glyptothek in Munich . In 1848 he became head of the artistic section of the royal porcelain factory in Nymphenburg , where he stayed until the company was sold in 1856. From 1868 to 1877 he was a professor at the Royal School of Applied Arts .

His grave is in the old southern cemetery in Munich. Location .

Work (selection)

Neureuther worked primarily as an illustrator, creating arabesques for literature and poetry. He established his reputation with marginal drawings for Goethe's ballads and romances . He also created decorative wall paintings and also appeared as a painter of table works.
