List of grape varieties |
Asprinio Bianco is an old autochthonous white wine variety from southern Italy . It was already known to the Etruscans , who mainly made vinegar from it. The tart, tangy, slightly foaming white wine made from it was very popular for a long time in the Naples area and in the wider area within Campania . In the middle of the 20th century, however , the wine was no longer in demand. Recently, new vineyards have been created, as the success of the remaining winemakers encourages them. The main area is the province of Caserta .
The high-growth variety requires a long cut and is mainly raised in the Guyot system . The traditional Alberello upbringing, which was raised on long wooden stakes, was largely suppressed. Recently the very old form of education Alberata Aversana (also called vite maritate ) has been propagated, in which the vines are raised on trees and can reach a height of 9 to 12 m. The grapes are harvested on ladders called scale napoletane. The DOC white wine Aversa Asprinio is made from this variety . In Italy the area under vines is 677 hectares .
The late-ripening variety produces low- color, slightly acidic white wines with a low alcohol content. Asprinio Bianco is a variety of the noble grapevine ( Vitis vinifera ). It has hermaphroditic flowers and is therefore self-fruiting. In viticulture , the economic disadvantage of not having to grow male plants that produce yield is avoided. A DNA analysis from 2005 suggests that Asprinio Bianco and Greco Bianco are identical
