Carl Triebel (born March 4, 1823 in Dessau , † September 16, 1885 in Wernigerode ) was a German romantic landscape and architecture painter and etcher .

Life

Triebel grew up in the Anhalt royal seat of Dessau, where he was a student of Johann Heinrich Beck , attended the Royal Academy in Berlin and became a professor there. Triebel was a student in Carl Schulz's studio. He made numerous trips through Germany, Switzerland, Tyrol and Northern Italy, where he did nature studies. Since 1842 he has mainly delivered his paintings to exhibitions at the Berlin Academy. His grave is located in the St. Marien and St. Nikolai Cemetery I in the Berlin district of Prenzlauer Berg . The marble sculpture on the grave with the title “Mourning woman leaning against a cross” was created by the sculptor Hermann Kokolsky .
