Life

Jacob completed a commercial apprenticeship in Halberstadt at the company Meier & Co. and worked there until 1851. From 1852 to December 1855 Jacob worked as a clerk in the Göttingen cloth trade Louis Laporte , which he left to do his military service in the Prussian army. Jacob took part in the trade expedition through Siam , the Japanese and the Chinese Empire and returned to Hamburg in 1862. He was employed again at HC Bock , received power of attorney in November 1862 and established the company's Asian trade. He married the daughter of the company owner, Brigitte Sophie Bock, and became a partner in 1865. He was a member of the board of directors of Norddeutsche Bank from 1870 to 1880 .

From 1868 until his death, Jacob was a member of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce , which he headed as President in 1874. Jacob belonged to the Hamburg citizenship from 1869 to 1874 .
