Arenocoris fallenii is a bug from the family of the border bugs (Coreidae).
features
The bugs are 6.3 to 7.5 millimeters long. They are very variable in their color. The species can be easily distinguished from similar species by its two rows of pale thorns on the pronotum , which form a V that opens backwards. In addition, the third link of the feeler has parallel side edges. In the similar Arenocoris waltlii , the third antennae is somewhat thickened towards the front.
distribution and habitat
The species is distributed in the western Palearctic . It appears all over Germany, but may be missing locally. In Austria it occurs in the east. It is not uncommon, especially in dry, sandy habitats. In Great Britain the species occurs mainly locally on sand dunes on the coasts between Norfolk and South Wales . She is also from the last few years Breckland of East Anglia proved.
Way of life
As well Arenocoris waltlii feeds arenocoris fallenii of the ordinary Filaree ( Erodium cicutarium ). The wintering takes place in the dry ground litter . Mating takes place in May; the oviposition can then extend over a long period of time, so that from mid-June to mid-September nymphs and adults appear side by side. In southern Central Europe, a second generation can presumably be trained in favorable years. Otherwise, the adults of the new generation appear from August.
