Carl Zeisberg

Carl Wilhelm Zeisberg , also modern Karl Zeisberg , (born April 12, 1804 in Wernigerode ; † November 16, 1850 there ) was a German librarian and collector of books.

Life

He was the son of the Count's Chamber Councilor Christian Ernst Zeisberg. After attending the Lyceum in Wernigerode from 1814 to 1822, he completed the pedagogy in Ilfeld , after which he studied in Göttingen and Berlin. In the summer of 1826 he also heard lectures on history from Leopold von Ranke . On June 19, 1830, Count Henrich zu Stolberg-Wernigerode appointed him library secretary of the Stolbergische Bibliothek Wernigerode . When government councilor Christian Heinrich Delius was prevented from doing so , he was also responsible for the release of archival material.

In 1846 Zeisberg was appointed count librarian.

From 1840 until his death he was the editor of the Wernigeröder intelligence paper. He died of eating fever in 1850.

Carl Zeisberg was married to Mathilde Auguste Wehmeyer from 1833. Heinrich Eberhard Ernst Wilhelm Zeisberg, born in 1834, was the only child from this marriage.

Zeisberg left behind a very important private library, which consisted of approx. 8000 works and was bought from the Zeisberg widow on August 9, 1858 on behalf of Count Otto zu Stolberg-Wernigerode for 11,440 thalers and 22 silver groschen.
