Carleton-sur-Mer is a city ( ville ) in the MRC Avignon in the southeast of the Canadian Quebec .
It is located in the southwest of the Gaspésie peninsula on the Gulf of St. Lawrence , 600 km northeast of the provincial capital Québec .
The population was 4073 in the 2016 census. The area of the municipality covers 221.42 km².
