Carlina lanata is a plant from the genus Eberwurzen ( carlina ) in the family of Compositae (Asteraceae).

features

Carlina lanata is a one, rarely two-year-old stem therophyte , which reaches heights of growth of 5 to 40 centimeters. The completely herbaceous stem is single or only slightly branched. The underside of the leaves is persistent tomentose. The upper leaves are elongated-elliptical to lanceolate, stiff and have long, barren thorns .

The heads have a diameter of 12-15 to 20-25 millimeters. The outer bracts measure 25 to 60 × 10 to 12 millimeters and are lanceolate. The fruits are 3 millimeters long, the pappus 12 millimeters.

The flowering period extends from June to August.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 20 or 18.

Occurrence

The Carlina lanata occurs in the Mediterranean area. The species grows in phrygana , sandy areas, fallow land and fields. In Crete it can be found at altitudes from 0 to 300 meters.
