Carlo Campanini (born October 5, 1906 in Turin , † November 20, 1984 in Rome ) was an Italian actor and singer .

Life

The son of the father of the same name and Eugenia born. Proiettis attended a technical high school and took singing lessons because he wanted to form his beautiful voice. At the same time endowed with a spontaneous comic-caricaturing streak, he first appeared in public (from 1926) with the Piedmontese dialect stage of Mario Casaleggio . Two years later he received a contract as a tenor in comic roles in the revue ensemble around Eugenio Testa , and then from 1931 for about four years as first tenor with Isa Bluette / Nuto Navariniwhere he played a repertoire from revue to operetta. The next station was that of a comedian in "Avanspettacolo", a very Italian stage form of skits, pieces of music and dramatic scenes, where he was celebrated under Vivienne D'Arys, above all as an impersonator of Laurel & Hardy alongside Carlo Dapporto . Finally, in 1939, his involvement with Epifani / Mario Mari's touring theater led to his discovery by film director Mario Mattòli , who initially showed his comic potential as a postman in his Lo vedi come? Lo vedi come sei? began.

With this film Campanini became one of the most sought-after supporting actors in Italian cinema during the war years, during which he continued to appear in numerous revues. In the first years after the war he intensified his stage work, although it was precisely then that his greatest roles came up with Le miserie del Signor Tavet in 1945 (as a not entirely convincing interpreter of the main role) and the following year as a war veteran in Il bandito , after which he quickly came re-immersed in countless supporting characters. Meanwhile, he was on stage in Garinei and Giovannini's Pirulì, Pirulì ... , and in the following season in Il congresso si diverte alongside Alda Mangini . Two more pieces followed in 1951/52, which was described as perfect, alongside Walter Chiari in Sogno di un Walter . Campanini and Chiari continued the work with Tutto fa Broadway , later with Oh quante belle figlie Madama Doré (1955/56). In 1959/60 he played alongside Erminio Macario in the musical comedy Una storia in blue jeans by Bruno Corbucci and Gianni Grimaldi . In the 1960s, he reduced his appearances in films and on stage. In 1977 he took over the management of a Piedmontese dialect stage and so came back to his beginnings.

Throughout his career, Campanini also took on radio duties and some television offers.

He was married to the Romanian Edy Valescu (actually Edwige Boza ).
