Giovanni Grimaldi

Giovanni Grimaldi (often Gianni Grimaldi , born November 14, 1917 in Catania , † February 27, 2001 in Rome ) was an Italian screenwriter and film director .

Life

Grimaldi, who was trained as a lawyer and journalist, initially worked for a number of newspapers and humorous periodicals such as “Trilussa”, “Marc'Aurelio” and with Giovannino Guareschi at “Candido”. As a writer and director he worked for theater, television - with Domenico Modugno, "Scaramouche" was created as a musical, with Vittorio Gassman "Il mattatore" was broadcast - and radio (his contributions to "Rosso e nero" were outstanding). In 1946 he co-founded Ruggero Maccari the Pinco Pallino magazine . At the beginning of the 1950s a fruitful work began as a screenwriter for parodies, comedies and farces, but also for spaghetti westerns . Since 1964 he has also directed almost twenty films as a comedy director. He often worked as a screenwriter with Bruno Corbucci , whom he had known since working together for theater and television, also under the name Jean Grimaud ; as a director with Franco & Ciccio and Lando Buzzanca .
