Il bello, il brutto, il cretino is a spaghetti western - Comedy , a direct parody on Sergio Leone's Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo from 1967. In the German-speaking world, the film, although German funds went into production yet listed. The grotesque comedians Franco & Ciccio play the leading roles.
action
Franco, "the stupid", is a bounty hunter, and Ciccio, "the ugly", is a wanted bandit. Franco delivers Ciccio to various locations in order to collect the bounty and then frees him again by shooting through the rope with which Ciccio is to be hung. One day, however, he misses his target and tries to forget his grief while playing poker. He wins a large sum of money through scams, which the maid Fabienne attracts. She knocks him out at the rendezvous and takes the money; Franco's attempts to win again at card games end miserably.
Thrown out, he meets Ciccio, who survived thanks to the collar of Santa Rosalia and is now taking revenge by forcing Franco into the desert, where he makes him hungry and thirsty. In the wilderness they meet a Confederate sergeant who entrusts them with the location of a treasure - but each only part of it. One knows the name of the cemetery where the loot can be found; the other that of the dead man whose grave they must look for. Franco and Ciccio decide to share and make their way to the cemetery, while another interested party, "the pretty one", has also taken up the scent. After a few adventures - this is how they must portray both Confederates and Unionists - the two companions achieve their goal.
“The handsome one” gets ahead of them and mounts his horse with the money when Fabienne shows up and takes the booty. Franco and Ciccio will both be saved from the gallows by the "Pretty" in the future ...
criticism
That's one step forward and one step back. The film sticks to the story of Leone's bestseller too unimaginatively. Unfortunately, Franco and Ciccio are in really bad shape; also because it is the seventh or eighth western parody. It would not be an exaggeration to change the subject now, write the Segnalazioni Cinematografiche .
Christian Keßler sees the film more positively: Many of the jokes are really extremely funny. […] The good script is a meticulous parody […].
Remarks
In this direct parody, as already indicated in the title, entire scenes from “Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo” are re-enacted in detail, only to tip over into the comic.
