Brigitt Petry

Brigitte "Brigitt" Petry (born March 14, 1943 in Berlin ; † April 28, 1971 in Dortmund ) was a German singer , actress and composer . She was best known as a pop singer in the 1960s .

Due to a misprint on the Polydor single 52691 (1966), “Brigitte Petry” became “Brigitt Petry”.

Life

Brigitt grew up in Berlin. After school she attended the conservatory in Halle (Saale) and Berlin. Then she became known as a jazz and pop singer in the former GDR . Concerts have taken her to Warsaw , Moscow and Bucharest . In 1965 she came to the Federal Republic of Germany via Yugoslavia and Austria and initially worked as a composer and lyricist.

In 1966 she took part in the German Schlager Festival in Baden-Baden and achieved a remarkable 4th place with the song As old as the world . Afterwards Brigitt was also seen as a singer in numerous television programs and in two feature films. She also performed as a duo with Jack White . In 1970 she sang at the EXPO in Osaka .

On April 28, 1971, she drove her car into a concrete pole on Bundesstrasse 1 near Dortmund and succumbed to her injuries.
