Garinei and Giovannini
Garinei and Giovannini were the duo that consisted of the playwrights Pietro Garinei (born February 1, 1919 in Trieste ; † May 9, 2006 in Rome ) and Sandro Giovannini (born July 10, 1915 in Rome; † April 26, 1977 ibid) and has written musical comedies that have enjoyed success for over thirty years.
Life
In 1944 the two journalists published the revue "Cantachiaro", in which Anna Magnani played and which was named after her satirical paper of the same name; from then on, Garinei and Giovannini developed into the most important creators of Italian music theater, who moved between classic revues and musical comedies, especially from 1951 to 1975, and who were able to celebrate numerous audiences.
The turning point and breakthrough to success is doing the 1952 is when the duo to the changing public taste with the turn to (partly after the US model designed, but also elements of the Revue receiving) musical comedy reacted with Attanasio cavallo vanesio a submitted the first work of this new genre. The 1956 performed Buonanotte Bettina , in which Walter Chiari and Delia Scala played, is considered to be one of the main works by Garinei and Giovannini.
The two authors wrote their plays for all theater greats in Italy; Totò , Erminio Macario , Carlo Dapporto , Alberto Sordi , Nino Manfredi , Aldo Fabrizi and Marcello Mastroianni are among the premieres of their works . They often created the musical contributions in collaboration with the composer Gorni Kramer , who was often referred to as the “third man of the duo”. Other composers Garinei and Giovannini worked with were Armando Trovajoli , Domenico Modugno and Renato Rascel .
In addition to their 49 stage works, the duo also wrote scripts (several of their plays were filmed) and were responsible for eighty tours through over twenty countries. They were also employed on television, for example with the debut program Duecento al secondo and their biggest screen success , Il Musichiere ; which was presented by Mario Riva .
After Giovannini's death, Garinei continued his career alone. Pieces such as Taxi a due piazze (1984), Se il tempo fosse un gambero (1986) or I sette re di Roma (1989) continued the long successful series.
