Marsuppini grew up in Florence and was in close contact with the Medici family . In 1444 he followed Leonardo Bruni as Chancellor of the Republic of Florence . He was a man of great culture, the author of letters and a few poems. Pope Nicholas V commissioned him in 1452 to translate the Iliad into Latin . Marsuppini, however, died without having accomplished much of it. The sculptor Desiderio da Settignano created his tomb in Santa Croce in Florence.
