Carlo Saraceni
Carlo Saraceni (* around 1579 in Venice ; † June 16, 1620 there ) was an Italian painter .
Life
Saraceni, son of a Bolognese silk merchant family, moved to Rome around 1600 and stayed there for most of his life. He may have been a student of Adam Elsheimer , but was also heavily influenced by Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio . Of his small-scale landscapes in copper , those on mythological subjects are the best. In 1616 he worked with Giovanni Lanfranco on frescoes in the Sala Regia of the Quirinal Palace . He died in Venice, where he was commissioned to decorate the hall of the Great Council.
