Carlo d'Arco , also Karl d'Arco (born September 8, 1799 or January 22, 1800 in Mantua , † January 26, 1873 in Mantua) was an Italian art historian, painter and economist.

Life

The nephew of Giambattista Gherardo d'Arco went to Milan in 1816 and studied several different fields of knowledge. He later worked in Florence and later in Rome as a painter of historical paintings, which were very much appreciated in Italy during his time. He then turned to the study of the art treasures of his hometown, as the fruit of which he published several gallery works with copperplate engravings based on his drawings from 1827 to 1837.

His first literary work was the story of life and works by Giulio Romano , published in 1838 . Of greater importance was the work Delle arti e degli artifici di Mantova, which encompasses the history of Mantuan art from the earliest times of the Middle Ages, taking into account the bourgeois-political situation. He wrote works on economics, statistics , art and archeology .
