Carlos Alberto Peña (born March 29, 1990 in Ciudad Victoria , Tamaulipas ), also known by the nickname Gullit , is a Mexican football player who plays in midfield . He is currently under contract with the Scottish first division club Glasgow Rangers and has been playing on loan with the Mexican club CD Cruz Azul since January 2018 .
Life
Peña joined CF Pachuca as a teenager and went through its junior division. before he was added to the squad of the Tuzos first division team in 2010 . Before that, he played for the third division farm teams Pachuca Júnior and Universidad del Fútbol . With the latter team he won the league championship several times.
After a total of 20 first division appearances for Pachuca, "Gullit" moved to the second division León in the summer of 2011 . At the end of his first season with the Panzas Verdes , he won the second division championship with León and, after ten years of abstinence, made the long-awaited return of the traditional club to the football club.
León not only managed to stay in the league, but even reached the semi-finals of the Mexican football championship in its first half-season 2012/13 , which was followed by a double win in the following season . When he won the first title in Apertura 2013, Peña was one of the most important players in his team, especially in the Liguillas , who scored three goals in the decisive final phase of the championship: two in the semifinals against Santos Laguna (3-1 and 2-2) and the Opening goal in the final first leg against last year's champions América (2-0 and 3-1). In the Liguillas of Clausura 2014 he was successful with one goal each in the games against Deportivo Toluca (semi-finals) and CF Pachuca (final).
Since October 2012 he has also been part of the Mexican national team .
